~ RECOMMENDED MATERIALS ~

THE ACADEMY PROVIDES:

• All easels, chairs and small tables to put your paint

• Two 24 cm x 30 cm canvas boards
• One 40 cm x 60 cm stretched canvas
• A4 Plastic sleeves for reference photos

• Liquitex Glazing Medium

• Golden fluid metallic gold

• Sandpaper, rags, paper towels

• Glaze cups

• Brush rinse-tubs

• Green painters tape

• Old toothbrushes

• Autumn Skye will bring some printed reference photos (A4 or 8.5”x11”)

THE STUDENTS BRING:

• The teachers' recommended brushes (see below)

* The teachers' recommended acrylic colours (see below)

• For your artistic future, we strongly recommend that you buy the paints & brushes recommended by the teacher

• But, don't panic if you don't have every colour! The Academy will have a selection of acrylic colours available as a back-up.

• The recommended Sta-wet palette

• A sketchbook, pencils, ruler (preferably to include inches and centimetres) & eraser

• A spritzer bottle

• A small image, talisman or piece of Nature for the altar, if you feel the call

MEDIUM

• The Academy will supply the Liquitex Glazing Medium

PAINTS

The brand I strongly recommend is Golden Fluid Acrylics. 4oz in Titanium White and Raw Umber, and the rest of the colours in the 1oz size will be totally adequate

• Raw Umber (not “burnt umber”)
• Yellowish hue: Raw Sienna, Yellow Ochre, or Indian Yellow
• Reddish hue: Burnt Sienna, Red Oxide, or Red Ochre
• Bluish hue: Paynes Grey (preferred), Prussian Blue, Ultramarine Blue, or Phthalo Blue

BRUSHES

• White nylon synthetic paint brushes (choose a good quality)

Rounds, size 1, 2 and 4

Flat brushes : 1/4" , 3/8" , 1/2", 3/4", 1" , 2"

PALETTE & JARS

• Masterson’s Sta-Wet Palettes come in three sizes. For traveling ease, I usually work with the smallest Handy Sta-Wet Palette. Ideally, having two of them on hand gives you the option of using one for the under-painting grey tones and the other for the colours.

Alternatively, the Medium or Large sized palettes are a good option, just more cumbersome for traveling and for use in an efficient work-space.

• Glaze cups : little plastic cups that salad dressing, dip, or hot sauce comes in when you get takeout. They have a little lid as well. A very small jam jar would suffice.

REFERENCE MATERIAL

• Printed photos (figures, faces, objects, animals) that you can use for inspiration for your references (please ensure photos are clear with good lighting and definition.

• Please come unattached to any images or ideas that you bring, as remaining open to the creative process and journey of reflection, insight, and discovery is one of the greatest teachers of art.
• Many additional photos will also be available for your use, so there's no need to bring any if you don’t have something that is already speaking to you.

DRAWING SUPPLIES

• 2-4 sticks of white chalk -Crayola brand is ideal

• Stabilo pencils : one white, and one brown or grey

• Pencil Sharpener (with standard and large sharpening options if possible, for both Stabilo pencils and chalk sticks)

• Sharpies markers : 1-2 Standard black

• circle tools

OTHER SUPPLIES
• One Spritzer Bottle (I prefer side/hand lever, rather than one finger pump nozzle as they can get easily clogged and are tiring on your fingers)

• Sketchbook and Notebook

• Personal apron or smock

• Compass

• Circle stencils
